Yes, I am aware that when you put your pictures online there's always a risk of having them stolen. But that doesn't mean it's okay to do it! It's especially not okay when a big-ass clothing chain here in Norway decided to slap one of my photographs on a tank top without asking for my permission. The picture they stole is the one called "Cat" here in my DA gallery. I found out about this a few days ago, and at first I was pretty shocked, now I'm pretty fucking pissed off! Not only have they stolen my photograph, they also cropped it so that my name is gone. And they make money from it! God damn! Since I'm not credited in any way, they're basically saying that the photograph is theirs.
What kind of idiot designer doesn't understand that he needs permission to use pictures that he has found online?! I mean, anyone should know that, ESPECIALLY designers. Holy hell, I am so angry. Plus, the tank top is pretty poorly designed..
I tried to call their main office today, but I was told that they wouldn't be back until next week. So I have to wait a week, and I just want to call them right now and tell them what they've done. They owe me lots of money, and I bet they won't just give it to me, so this will probably take ages to resolve. Luckily, I have evidence that I took the picture.
Unfortunately, it seems like all these art and photograph communities around the internet are becoming more and more unsafe. I've read about other people whose pictures have been stolen and used for something commercial. And Lara Jade who had one of her pics stolen and slapped on a porn dvd. That's pretty bad!
It makes me want to slap my signature all over my pictures from now on, in big-ass letters.
I'm just wondering why these people think it's okay to steal other people's pics? When you work on something, a piece of art or anything really, and some douchebag just steal it and make money off of it, it just sucks so bad. Can't wait until next week, can't wait to hear what they have to say, and if they don't take me seriously, I'll sue their asses.
